🥏 Pairs T&C

Pairs Throw & Catch is a timed, disc-based event where two human handlers and one dog work as a team to score as many points as possible in 60 seconds. Handlers must alternate throws, and only one disc is allowed in play.

📏 Field Setup

  • 🟦 The field is 50 yards long and is divided into five 10-yard scoring zones.
  • ⬆️ Each zone increases in point value by 1, starting with 0 points (0–10 yds = 0 pts, 10–20 yds = 1 pt, ..., 40–50 yds = 4 pts).
  • 🎯 A bonus half-circle zone (4-yard radius) is marked in the final (40–50 yard) zone (= 5 pts).

⏱️ Gameplay

  • 🕐 Teams have 60 seconds to complete as many throws as possible.
  • 📢 Time begins on the word "GO" as part of a countdown by the announcer: either “3, 2, 1, GO” or “Ready, Set, GO” or “GO”. Countdown has to be the same for all teams.
  • 🔔 Time ends on the starting syllable of the word “Time” as called by the announcer.
  • 🥏 Only one disc may be used during the round.
  • 🚫 Rollers are not allowed – all throws must be airborne.
  • 🔁 Throws must alternate between handlers.
  • 🚩 Both handlers must be behind the throwing line for each throw. A foot fault results in no points for that throw, but the throw still counts and the next throw must be made by the other handler.

🎮 Difficulty Levels

  • Level 1: 🤝 Both handlers are positioned behind the same throwing line.
  • Level 2: ↔️ Handlers are positioned on opposite ends of the field and alternate throws across the full 50-yard distance.

📊 Scoring

  • ➖ Catch in 0–10 yd zone = 0 points
  • ➕ Catch in 10–20 yd zone = 1 point
  • ➕➕ Catch in 20–30 yd zone = 2 points
  • ➕➕➕ Catch in 30–40 yd zone = 3 points
  • ➕➕➕➕ Catch in 40–50 yd zone = 4 points
  • 🐾 Scoring is based on the paw in the lowest scoring zone at the moment of the catch.
  • 💥 Bonus: Catch in half-circle = 5 points
  • 🏆 For bonus points, at least one paw must be inside the bonus zone, but all four paws must be in the 40–50 yard zone.

⚖️ Tie Breaker

In the event of a tie, the following criteria will be used in order:

  1. 🥇 Highest scoring single round (if 2 rounds are played)
  2. 📉 Fewest throws required to achieve that (best or single) round
  3. 💥 More bonus zone scored
  4. 🎯 Two-throw (each thrower) sudden death throw-off
