Parallel Time Trial

is a head-to-head dog frisbee race where two teams compete side by side on a split field

Rules

The field used for Parallel Time Trial is at least 30×40 yards in size and is divided lengthwise into two equal lanes by a clear barrier. Both the starting line and the end of the field must be clearly marked. General Time Trial rules apply throughout the event. In the case where two dogs with the same handler meet in a head-to-head round, the dog with the faster qualification time automatically advances.

Qualification

  • Time starts when the dog crosses the starting line (free start).
  • You have 60 seconds to catch the first disc. Fail → you're out.
  • After a successful first catch, you have 60 seconds to catch the second. Fail → you're out.
  • Top 16 teams advance based on their qualification times.
  • In case of a tie for the last qualifying spot, a tie-break round is held. If still tied, a draw determines placement.
  • Optional: Qualification can have 2 rounds where better round is considered your qualification round.

Play-offs

  • Teams are paired (1 vs. 16, 2 vs. 15, etc.) and run simultaneously.
  • The higher-seeded team chooses their side of the field.
  • First team to make two successful catches beyond the 20-yard line wins the round.
  • If after 2 minutes no team has made two catches, the round is stopped and repeated at the end. The team that makes the first catch beyond the 20-yard line in the repeat round advances.
  • Start on the referee’s countdown: “3, 2, 1, start”.
  • False start → The round is stopped and restarted. The team that commits the first false start receives a yellow card. A second false start by the same team in the same round results in disqualification.
  • Disqualification if a disc lands in the other lane or the dog crosses the dividing line.

Finals

  • Finalists compete in a best-of-three format.
  • Lanes are switched after each run. If tied 1:1, a third deciding run is held with another lane switch.
  • Teams placing 5th–8th, 9th–16th and 16th+ are ranked based on their qualification times.
